Saturday Jobs

With an early summer storm rolling in off the Atlantic doing a few jobs in the workshop is a productive use of time and not too much of a chore.
Especially as I’m hoping to get out on the water later in the week.

An ideal job for one of these Saturday mornings is planing the inner face of the split strips. It’s a low accuracy task, based more on feel than measuring so an couple of easy  hours at the bench.
Planing the inner face provides a flat consistent surface ready for the, next stage which will be scraping the outer enamel, a much more critical job.

Many of the processes of making a cane rod are preparing the strips and sections for the next stage, the better the preparations are done, the easier and more accurate the next part of the process is, which then makes the next part of the process easier and more accurate…. and so it goes on.
